We regularly celebrate US!
Given the history of The Center's location and its emotional connection to Portland's Black community, we worked hard - and quickly - to make The Soul Restoration Center a place where, as soon as they walked into the door, Black people from any city, state, country or continent would feel safe, seen, and culturally celebrated. In other words, they would feel at home.
Events have included family yoga, book readings, Black Student Union gatherings, Freestyle Friday youth open mics, and weekly bagel giveaways to let youth know that they were emotionally and physically nourished before school. Here are examples:
